Custom Battle Jacket Commission

What exactly is a custom battle jacket commission?

(scroll down for photos of previous work)

A custom battle jacket commission is a long-form, one-to-one project where I work closely with you to design and build a battle jacket specifically around your bands, layout preferences, and overall vision - much like a large tattoo piece.

Most band logo patches are custom-designed and machine-embroidered by me, then everything is fully hand-stitched over time. Woven album art patches, back patches, and hardware are sourced collaboratively where needed.

This is not a pre-designed product or a quick service - it’s a slow, intentional build.

How long does a commission take?

There’s no fixed turnaround time.

Jackets are built gradually and in stages, alongside my other studio work. Progress is organic rather than linear, and the jacket is finished when it feels right, not when a deadline hits.

If you’re looking for something fast or time-critical, this probably isn’t the right service for you.

How does pricing work?

Pricing is split into three parts:

  • Design & commitment deposit (required to begin)
  • Build fee, based on complexity and coverage
  • Materials, charged separately as they’re confirmed

Costs evolve as the project develops, but nothing is purchased without your approval first. Full transparency is always provided before any spend.

What’s the rough total cost?

As a guide:

  • Design deposit: £150–£300
  • Build fee: £800–£1,400+
  • Materials: additional (patches, back patch, hardware, etc.)

Most full builds land in the region of £1,200–£2,500+, depending on scale and material choices.

Why isn’t this a fixed price?

Because every jacket is different.

Band choices, layout density, patch styles, and sourcing needs all affect the final cost. Fixing a price upfront would either limit the build or require overcharging “just in case”.

This approach keeps things fair, flexible, and tailored to the actual jacket being built.

Do you make all the patches?

Most band logo patches are custom-embroidered by me, specifically sized and styled for your jacket layout. This can also include filler patches like swords, stars, and general motifs. If you can send me a clean image of it with nice clear lines and clean graphics, I can often turn it into a patch.

Some things (like woven album art patches or large back patches) can’t realistically be reproduced this way and are sourced collaboratively instead. You can send me patches you have already if you have them, or I can source them.

Can I choose all the bands and patches?

Yes, the jacket is built around your bands (and general theme if using non-band patches).

That said, part of what you’re paying for is my experience with layout, sizing, and what works visually. I’ll always be honest if something won’t sit well or could be improved.

It’s collaborative, not copy-and-paste.

Do you supply the jacket itself?

This depends on the project.

Some clients supply their own jacket base; others ask me to source one. This is discussed during the initial consultation so we choose something suitable for the build.

At this time I’m only working on Denim jackets. Leather/Faux Leather may be offered down the line.

Can I make changes during the build?

Small adjustments are normal - the jacket evolves as it comes together.

Major changes (for example, changing direction completely or adding significant new elements late on) may affect cost or timeline, and we’ll discuss this openly before anything changes.

How many commissions do you take at once?

I only work on one jacket at a time.

This keeps quality high and ensures each piece gets the attention it deserves. Because of this, availability is limited and spaces are not guaranteed.

Is this service right for me?

This is for you if:

  • You want one truly personal, statement jacket
  • You value craft, detail, and patience
  • You’re comfortable with a slow, evolving process

This probably isn’t for you if:

  • You want a fast turnaround
  • You want a fixed price upfront
  • You’re looking for mass-produced merch
